Football punting

Access data file
Keywords:
football; strength
Categories:
sport;
regression
Description:
The data give the right- and left-leg strengths of 13 American footballers (measured using a weight lifting test), plus the distance they punt a football (with their right leg).

There are 13 observations on three variables.

Variables:
Left Left-legstrength (in lb)
Right Right-leg strength (in lb)
Punt Punting distance (in feet)
Data Quality:
There are no missing values.
Source:
Myers, Raymond H. (1990). Classical and modern regression with applications, second edition. Duxbury; page 75.
Notes:
These appear to come from a larger data set, available from (for example) Oz DASL

The two leg strengths are both strongly related to punting distance, but when both are fitted, they both show marginal statistical signficance. The data can be used to demonstrate added variable plots, variance inflation factors, etc.
