regression, generalized linear models
The data record numerous variables about the number of passengers using bus services in rural areas, in nine states of the USA. The data are divided into two sets: one for fixed-route services, and one for on-demand services. 53 surveys were returned; 20 provided on-demand services, 8 provided fixed-route services, and 25 provided both.
There are 12 observations on 9 variables for fixed-services; there are 16 observations on 9 variables for on-demand services. In addition, each file contains a variable called Type to distinguish in case the files are merged.
| Riders | the number of bus passengers, in passengers per day (presumably a mean) |
| Bmiles | The system-wide total daily bus or vehicle miles |
| Older | The number of people over 55 years of age |
| Headway | (For fixed-route services only) The headway in minutes on a typical working day averaged over all routes in the system |
| ResvTime | (For on-demand services only) The average reservation time (in days) in advance needed to reserve a ride |
| Fare | The fare for a one-way trip, presumably in dollars |
| Pop | The Population |
| LIH | The number of low-income households (annual income less than $10 000) serviced |
| Poverty | The number of household below the poverty level (defined as people spending more than one-third of their monthly income on food) in the area serviced by the transit provider |
| MedRent | The median rent in the transit area, presumably in dollars. There is no indication whether this is weekly, fortnightly, or otherwise |
| Type | The type of service, always Fixed in the data file for fixed-route services, and always Demand the data file for on-demand services |
There are no missing values.
